Hi! My name is Sarah Spencer. I'm a multi-passionate weirdo that keeps her fingers in many pies, and one of those pies is sweet, sweet music. I've been a DJ at CHIRP since I first moved to Chicago from Vancouver, Canada in 2018, and I've hosted the Saturday morning show since 2020. Like all the CHIRP DJs, I play a diverse mix on my show, though I have a soft spot for hip-hop, soul, electronic, and gothy synthy stuff. Ummmmm and disco, singer-songwriter stuff (esp womxn-fronted), heavy rock, jazz, and artsy emotive stuff.

I'm also a working artist; my medium is textiles with a focus on improvisational quilting. My passion for music often mixes into my art, and I've made pieces inspired by Sharon Van Etten, Ibibio Sound Machine, Aldous Harding, the Beatles, and Fever Ray.

I teach in the Textiles department at Lillstreet Arts Center, where I particularly enjoy working with beginners, as well as working with more advanced students teaching garment-making.

Other pies include a lifelong passion for comedy. I spent time performing improv, stand-up, and sketch comedy. I trained as a dancer for many years in a number of styles, though my favorite moves come from a fusion of belly dance and various urban street styles. I also love to sing and be a general emotive maniac, and I imagine I will do more stuff of this nature in the future. We'll see.
